Scotty, 11 month old Cocker Spaniel
Scotty lived with an elderly man until his owner passed away. His new owners realized that he really lacked in the socialization department. Scotty was extremely phobic of strangers and very territorial in his new home. Protocol = We took Scotty to the kennel for one month of concentrated obedience training and socialization with strangers. We then brought Scotty home and started one month of in-home training to teach mom and dad how to work with Scotty.
Sherman, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
Diagnosis = improper socialization as a puppy. Sherman was phobic of all people except his immediate family. He even showed some subtle signs of being a fear biter. From six to eight months of age Sherman did not get out of his immediate house and yard very much. This caused him to be very phobic of people and noises outside of his safety area which was his yard and home. Protocol = We took Sherman out of his home to the kennel for intensive socialization for one month. By teaching him basic obedience commands we were able to teach him to relax in a down stay position, we were able to slowly desensitize him to his phobias by introducing them to him while in his relaxed state.
Toby, 2 year old Dobi Mix
Toby had a combination of separation anxiety and protective aggression towards strangers when around mom. We solved Toby's problems by kennel training him for one month to teach him basic obedience commands. Mild forms of separation anxiety can be solved simply by taking the dog out of his home environment and to teach him to be more self-sufficient without mom. The protective aggression we solved simply by teaching mom how to be more dominant with Toby then she used to be. A dog that listens to all basic obedience commands from their owner in any given situation will almost always be submissive to their owner and will not feel the need to protective aggression.
Trevor, 10 month old Great Dane/Pit Bull Mix
Already at 90 pounds, this head strong puppy was ruling his family. He had no training when he came to us except that he was housebroken. We put this big guy in a three week kennel training program where we taught him all his basic obedience commands and gave him some good social manners around people. Upon completion of the kennel training we did three weeks of in-home follow up.
